Your Since Love center diamond keeps its value. Whenever you want a larger stone, your original diamond's purchase price becomes credit toward the new piece. No expiration, no service fee, and no hidden restrictions. The same simple terms apply whether you upgrade in eighteen months or eighteen years.
What we provide, and on what terms
The program is intentionally simple. The credit equals the original diamond purchase price, the trade-in window is your lifetime, and the only structural rule is that the new piece must be meaningfully larger than the original.
One hundred percent credit
The full original purchase price of the diamond is applied as credit toward the new piece. Not a percentage. Not a depreciated value. The price you paid is the credit you receive.
Lifetime window
There is no expiration on the trade-in eligibility. Anniversary, milestone, life event, or simply a desire for something larger. The window is open for as long as you own the original.
Center stones only
The program covers the center diamond. Side stones, melee, and accent diamonds are not part of the program. The original setting is replaced, not credited, since each setting is custom to its specific stone.
Every trade-in begins with certificate matching
When an upgrade piece arrives at our facility, the first action is verification. The diamond is removed from its setting, placed under the gemological microscope, and matched against the laser inscription on the original IGI or GIA certificate. The inscription number is the unique identifier that confirms this is the same stone we sold.
Once verified, the diamond is photographed in high resolution against the original certificate scan. This documentation establishes the chain of provenance for the stone's next placement.
The mechanics, the math, the boundary conditions
The Lifetime Diamond Upgrade program operates on a single arithmetic principle: the credit applied to your new piece equals the original purchase price of the center diamond from your existing piece. If you originally purchased a center diamond at five thousand dollars, that five thousand dollars becomes credit toward whatever you choose next. The credit is not adjusted for time elapsed, market conditions, or current diamond pricing. The number on your original receipt is the number that returns to you.
There is one structural rule: the new piece must have a center stone valued at no less than two times the original purchase price. If your original diamond cost five thousand dollars, the new center stone must be priced at ten thousand dollars or more. This rule exists because the program is designed for genuine upgrades to larger or higher-quality stones, not as a return-with-extra-steps. The 2x threshold is the same standard used by every premium house that operates this kind of program.
The original setting is not part of the credit calculation. Each Since Love setting is custom-fabricated for the specific dimensions of its specific stone, with prong placement, gallery height, and basket geometry all calibrated to the original diamond. When the diamond is removed and a new one is set, the original setting cannot simply be reused on the new stone. For this reason the credit is on the diamond only, and the new setting is fabricated fresh as part of the new piece.
The diamond returns to our inventory; the setting is responsibly retired
When a piece comes in for upgrade, the original diamond is verified against its certificate, inspected for condition, and returned to our diamond inventory for resale. The original setting is melted down, with the gold returned to refining and reused in future fabrications. Nothing is wasted. The piece is not destroyed in any meaningful sense — its stone continues a new life with another customer, and its metal becomes part of the next generation of Since Love work.

Anniversary upgrade
Original center diamond: 1.5 ct lab-grown, $5,400. New larger lab-grown center diamond: $12,800. Your credit: $5,400. Diamond balance: $7,400.
Milestone upgrade
Original center diamond: 1 ct natural, $11,200. New center diamond: 2 ct natural, $32,500. Your credit: $11,200. Diamond balance: $21,300.
Quality upgrade
Original center diamond: 2 ct lab-grown G/VS, $7,800. New center diamond: 2.5 ct lab-grown D/VVS, $16,500. Your credit: $7,800. Diamond balance: $8,700.
What qualifies, what does not
Eligibility for the Lifetime Diamond Upgrade program turns on three factors: provenance of the original diamond, condition of the original diamond, and verification through certificate matching.
Eligible for upgrade
- Center diamonds originally purchased from Since Love
- Original IGI or GIA certificate matching the stone
- Original condition, without chips or fractures
- Verifiable original purchase information
- Lab-grown to lab-grown, or natural to natural
- New center diamond priced at least twice the original diamond price
Not eligible
- Side stones, melee, and accent diamonds
- Stones purchased elsewhere
- Missing or non-matching certification
- Chips, fractures, or third-party laser inscriptions
- Cross-origin upgrades between lab-grown and natural
- New center diamonds below the 2× price threshold
specific note on the like-to-like rule: lab-grown diamonds can only be upgraded to lab-grown diamonds, and natural diamonds can only be upgraded to natural diamonds. The two categories sit in different price tiers and operate under different supply economics, and a cross-category upgrade would not be commercially feasible at the credit ratios this program offers. If you originally purchased a lab-grown center stone and would like to move into the natural category, we are happy to discuss a separate purchase; the original lab-grown can be repurposed in a different piece, but it cannot be applied as credit toward a natural stone.
Repair restores; it does not replace
When a piece is repaired under warranty, the goal is to restore it to normal use function rather than to issue a replacement. Unless we determine that a defect cannot be remedied through repair, we fulfill the warranty obligation through repair work rather than through replacement with a new piece. This is consistent with industry practice and reflects the reality that fine jewelry pieces are not interchangeable in the way that mass-produced consumer goods are.
If repair is genuinely not possible - for example, if a structural failure has compromised the integrity of the original piece in a way that cannot be addressed through targeted intervention - we will offer either a replacement of equivalent specifications or a full refund of the original purchase price. This determination is made by the bench team after inspection, not at customer request.
How An Upgrade Actually Unfolds
From the first email to delivery of the upgraded piece, the Lifetime Diamond Upgrade process typically takes between four and eight weeks, depending on the complexity of the new design. The four steps below describe the operational sequence in chronological order.
01 · Reach out with order info
Email info@sincelovejewelry.com with your original order number and a sense of what you have in mind for the new piece. We respond within one business day with verification of eligibility and next steps.
02 · Inspection and verification
Send the original ring via insured signed shipping. Our gemologists verify the diamond against the original certificate, confirm condition, and confirm credit value. Inspection completes within five business days
03 · Design the new piece
Standard bespoke consultation: stone selection, CAD renderings, wax models, finalized design. The credit and balance are confirmed at this stage, and the order is firm once you sign off on the final design.
04 · Fabrication, QC, delivery
The new piece is fabricated at our Shenzhen atelier, undergoes full QC inspection, and ships with full insurance and signature requirement. Total timeline from inspection to delivery is typically four to six weeks.
Why this program exists in the form it takes
The Lifetime Diamond Upgrade is structured the way it is because that structure reflects how customers actually think about the future of their pieces. The diamond purchased as an engagement ring is not the diamond every customer wants forever. Tastes evolve, anniversaries warrant something more, and the desire to mark a meaningful chapter with a meaningfully larger stone is one of the most common conversations we have with returning clients.
The program is offered in this exact form because the alternative — a depreciated credit, a percentage-based haircut, an expiration date — feels small. If we are confident enough in our pricing to stand behind it at sale, we should be confident enough to stand behind it at trade-in. The 2x threshold is the only structural protection we keep, and it exists because the program is designed for genuine upgrades, not for buyer's remorse working its way around the return policy.
The legal substance
The Lifetime Diamond Upgrade is a goodwill program offered by Since Love at our discretion. It is not part of our binding Terms and Conditions and does not constitute a contractual obligation. We reserve the right to modify, restrict, or discontinue the program at any time, with appropriate notice and respect for any pending trade-in requests already in progress. The program operates in addition to, not in place of, the Limited Warranty described under Section 17 of our Terms and Conditions.
