Custom Design

Custom Design

A piece designed only for you. From the first hand-rendered sketch to the final approval, your designer guides you through six stages of collaboration and craftsmanship.

Custom Project Work Is Guided By Four Commitments.

Every custom jewelry project is a collaborative journey with your lead designer and artisan team. Our four commitments guide every creation, whatever your budget, design complexity, or starting point.

A single designer through the entire project

The designer who runs your initial consultation is the same designer who produces the sketches, the CAD render, and the bench supervision through fabrication. You will not be handed off between team members at any point in the process.

Approval gates at every irreversible step

You approve the concept sketch, the CAD render, and the wax model before any irreversible work begins. If something is not right, we revise rather than proceed. The wax model approval is the final gate before metal casting.

Honest pricing without bench-time surprises

The design fee is two hundred dollars and is disclosed before the consultation. The fabrication quote is provided after the CAD stage and is binding for thirty days. Material substitutions, if needed, are quoted before they happen.

Documented from concept to delivery

Every stage produces documentation: the brief, the sketches, the CAD file, the wax model photographs, the QC certificate, the IGI or GIA stone certificate, and the handwritten note from your designer. The documentation is yours to keep.

Designer sketching on tablet during a video call

A sketch produced in front of you, not after the call

Most bespoke processes treat the sketch as something the designer produces in private after the consultation, with the result delivered to the client days later as a finished proposal. We do the opposite. The designer sketches in real time during the consultation, with you watching, suggesting, and refining as the lines develop on the page. The first iteration is rarely the final iteration, but it is the right starting point for a conversation about what you actually want rather than what we assume you want.

By the end of the initial consultation, you have a hand-rendered sketch that captures the direction of the design, even if the details still need work. The two or three refined concept sketches that follow during the design fee stage are extensions of that initial sketch rather than starting points unrelated to anything you saw during the conversation.

From First Conversation To Delivered Piece, In Six Stages

The bespoke jewelry journey unfolds across six stages, with four approval gates along the way. The fourth gate, wax model approval, is your final chance to revise the design before metal casting begins.

DELIVERED

Three levels of customization, each with different scope and cost

Custom projects fall into three levels, each with different timelines. The right option depends on whether you're modifying an existing piece, starting from scratch, or setting an heirloom stone.

Semi-Custom

— Modification of an existing design

Start with a piece from our existing collection and modify specific elements. Common modifications include changing the metal type from white to yellow gold, adjusting the prong style from four to six, substituting the center stone shape, or adding personal engraving. The structural design remains as originally created.

This level is appropriate when you have found a piece that is almost right and want to adjust it for your specific preferences. Production timeline is typically two to four weeks rather than the full bespoke seven to eight weeks.

Full Bespoke

— Designed from concept

A fully original piece designed for your specific situation, starting from an open creative brief. The lead designer produces concept sketches, refines them through dialogue, develops a 3D CAD model, and supervises the fabrication. This is what most clients mean when they say "custom."

Appropriate when you have a clear sense of what you want but cannot find anything close to it in existing collections, or when the piece has personal significance that warrants a fully original design. The two hundred dollar design fee applies at the start of the design process and is non-refundable.

Heirloom Setting

— Reset of a family stone

A new setting designed around a stone you already own, typically inherited or pulled from a family piece. The center stone is examined and re-graded if needed, and the setting is designed to suit the specific dimensions, color, and condition of your stone rather than a hypothetical one. The stone remains yours throughout the process.

Appropriate when sentimental value matters as much as design value, when the stone has unusual proportions that prevent it from working in standard settings, or when you want to honor a family connection through a contemporary piece. The design fee applies at full bespoke rates.

Designed Around You, Crafted to Last

Every bespoke piece begins with your story, inspiration, and vision. Our design process brings your ideas to life through thoughtful consultation, personalized design development, and careful attention to every detail.

From the initial concept to the final design approval, you'll be involved at every key stage. We refine each detail with you before craftsmanship begins, ensuring the finished piece reflects your vision, your style, and your story.

Every creation is a collaboration, thoughtfully designed and individually crafted to become a piece you'll treasure for years to come.

When bespoke is the right choice, and when an existing piece would serve you better

Custom design isn’t always the best choice. The guide below helps you decide whether bespoke, semi-custom, or an existing piece is right for you.

— Bespoke is right when

The project genuinely calls for an original

  • You have looked at existing pieces and consistently feel that none of them are quite what you want.

  • The piece has personal significance — an engagement, an anniversary, a milestone — that warrants the time and care of a custom process.

  • You have an heirloom stone you want set in a contemporary design that honors the original while suiting your taste.

  • You want to be involved in the design process rather than just selecting from a finished catalog.

  • Your timeline accommodates the seven-to-eight-week production window, and you can engage with the approval gates as they arise.

  • You are comfortable with a non-returnable purchase, since custom pieces cannot be returned per Section 16 of our Terms.

— An existing piece may serve better when

Speed, certainty, or budget is the priority

  • You need the piece in fewer than four weeks. Bespoke timelines do not compress meaningfully even at premium rush rates.

  • Your budget would be substantially better spent on stone size or quality than on design fees and bench time.

  • You have not yet identified what you actually want. Browsing existing pieces first is faster and less expensive than working it out through a design process.

  • You want the option to return the piece if it is not right after delivery. Custom pieces are non-returnable.

  • The design you have in mind is similar enough to an existing collection piece that semi-custom modifications would achieve the goal.

  • You would feel uncomfortable with the level of decision-making that bespoke requires across multiple approval gates over seven to eight weeks.

If you are uncertain which path is appropriate for your situation, the simplest way to find out is to book a complimentary virtual consultation. The consultation itself is the discovery conversation that helps determine whether bespoke, semi-custom, or an existing piece is the right answer for you. Many clients book a consultation expecting to start a custom project and conclude that an existing piece with light modifications is the better path. The opposite also happens. Either outcome is fine.

Final piece on linen surface beside the original hand-rendered sketch

The original sketch returns with the finished piece

When your custom piece arrives, included in the documentation envelope is the original hand-rendered concept sketch from your first consultation. The sketch is signed by the lead designer and dated to the day it was produced. It is the artifact that connects the finished piece you are holding to the conversation that started seven or eight weeks earlier, and it is yours to keep alongside the IGI or GIA certificate, the certificate of authenticity, and the handwritten note from your designer.

Most clients frame the sketch and keep it with the ring. A small number have it photographed and included in their wedding albums. We mention this not to suggest what you should do with it, but to explain why we go to the trouble of preserving the original sketch through the entire production cycle rather than treating it as working paper that gets discarded after the design is finalized.

The journey starts with a fifty-minute video consultation

Book a complimentary Bespoke Custom Design consultation with our lead designer. Discuss your vision, see real-time sketching during the call, and decide whether to proceed afterward. The consultation is genuinely complimentary; the design fee applies only if you decide to begin the formal design process at the end of the conversation.

The legal substance

The custom design commitments described on this page are the customer-facing presentation of Section 14 of our Terms and Conditions, which is the controlling legal document for all bespoke and custom orders. The two hundred dollar design fee is a non-refundable professional service fee for design and consultation, applied at the start of the formal design process and not credited against the fabrication cost if the project proceeds. Custom pieces are personalized and therefore non-returnable per Section 16 of the Terms; the four approval gates throughout the process exist specifically to protect against design issues being discovered after fabrication, when revision is no longer possible without significant cost. Material substitutions, where required by supply availability, are quoted in advance and are subject to your approval before they are made.
