Diamond Cut Guide

Discover how diamond cut directly unleashes a lab grown diamond's dazzling brilliance, vibrant fire, and captivating sparkle.

What Is Diamond Clarity?

Diamond clarity measures the presence of internal (inclusions) and external (blemishes) imperfections in both natural and lab-grown diamonds. These characteristics develop during formation — either naturally under the Earth's pressure and heat or during the lab-growing process — or during subsequent cutting, polishing, and wear. A diamond's clarity grade, ranging from Flawless to Included, indicates how noticeable these imperfections are under 10x magnification, though many are invisible to the naked eye.

Simply put, diamond clarity refers to the absence or presence of internal inclusions and surface blemishes on a diamond. It's one of the four factors that describe and determine a diamond's quality and value.

Clarity SI2

Slightly included 2. Inclusions are noticeable under 10x magnification and may be visible to the naked eye.

Clarity SI1

Slightly included 1. Inclusions are noticeable under 10x magnification but typically not visible to the naked eye.

Clarity VS2

Very slightly included 2. Minor inclusions observed with effort under 10x magnification. Cannot see inclusions with the naked eye.

Clarity VS1

Very slightly included 1. Difficult to see inclusions under 10x magnification. Typically cannot see inclusions with the naked eye.

Clarity VVS2

Very very slightly included 2. Inclusions are difficult to see under 10x magnification, even for a skilled grader.

Clarity VVS1

Very very slightly included 1. Inclusions are extremely difficult to see under 10x magnification.

Clarity IF

Internally flawless. No inclusions visible under 10x magnification. Only surface blemishes are present.

Clarity FL

Flawless. No inclusions and no blemishes visible under 10x magnification. The rarest clarity grade.

The Key Elements of Diamond Cut

When it comes to figuring out what makes each diamond sparkle the way it does, it's ultimately about the components that formulate its cut.

Proportions

Proportions are the relative measurements and angles of the properties of the diamond's facets...
